Belgian Atlantic 12.004

Class 12 Belgian Atlantic machines was brought on active service in 1939 by the Belgian National Railroads Company (SNCB).

They are engines having a 2-2-1 arrangement of axles (2 carrying axles, 2 driving axles and & 1 carrying axle).

This serie is, probably, the last of this type which was built.

These steam-machine were provided with a careenage integrating the results of the studies made, in particular, by French ingeneer Huet.

These machine reached speeds of 140 Km/h on the way Brussels-Oostende which they carred out with an average of 121 Km/h.

The cylinders were place inside of the frame.

I took some pictures of the 12.004 in 1985 during a water supply by firemen in Namur Railway Station.
